A closer look at oral thrush will reveal some commonalities you can’t ignore. Thrush is caused by an infection and is, therefore, communicable. There are quite a few ways it can be transmitted including via sexual contact. Usually thrush is simply diagnosed as an oral infection. But that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be taken seriously and ignored. If oral thrush isn’t treated quickly, there is a possibility it can lead to esophageal yeast infection, which is a very serious condition that is difficult to get rid of. And so, if you suspect oral thrush, you must not underestimate the seriousness of it and its imperative to get it treated immediately, before it can spread.
The yeast infection known as oral thrush has been known to lead to serious complications. Candida albicans is the name of the yeast (fungus) that can lead to oral thrush in two different ways – as a result of a yeast overgrowth in your entire body or by contact transmission from another person. It’s more common to see oral thrush in the mouths of babies and youngsters; nevertheless, anyone can get a case of oral thrush. When it begins to spread due to lack of treatment, then it can enter the throat area. Another reason this can spread is due to improper treatment, which usually occurs with people attempting home treatment. I’ve encountered some patients with this problem due to my job as ultrasound technician and I see how serious this infection can be.
It isn’t necessary for someone to have a serious, or chronic, health condition in order to develop oral thrush. There are many other ways this infection can be contracted. Nevertheless, there are certain factors that can be present that will make someone more vulnerable to contracting a serious yeast infection or overgrowth. To explain further, many secondary health issues afflict those with AIDS or HIV and oral thrush is no exception Regardless of the circumstance or condition that causes someone’s immune system to become weakened, it can potentially lead to a higher risk of that person contracting oral thrush, or any one of the other yeast infections. If a cancer patient, for example, is receiving chemotherapy, they would have a weakened immune system.
The formal name for any type of yeast infection – oral thrush included – is Candidiasis. Opportunistic is a good word to describe Candidiasis. The Candida albicans yeast lives in the body of a healthy person and causes no problems. However, if someone whose resistance has been weakened and their immune system compromised, they are more at risk for developing a full-blown yeast infection. Since Candida is a yeast, or fungus, it is normal for everyone to have it in their bodies. The good bacteria the body produces keeps the Candida albicans controlled and, for this, you need to be in good health and have a normal immune system. As you can surely understand, when someone has a weakened immune system, the Candid albicans can start multiplying out of control and cause a myriad of problems. The mouth and throat are the areas that are most at risk for a yeast infection transmission. A friend of mine has this condition and I didn’t think twice to let her borrow my ultrasound technician salary savings so she can be cured immediately.
Current data suggests that thrush usually affects the older folks and babies and not so much middle aged people. This is likely due to an immune system that is not as vigorous. You may also want to be conscious of a possible relation of thrush to certain lifestyles.
